THE HOTEL

The Crown is an olde worlde Elizabethan coaching inn that’s been tastefully rejigged to suit the mores of the modern guest. The hotel appeared in the film Four Weddings and a Funeral, and it’s clear why: a homely, antiquarian aesthetic is applied throughout, with the understated furnishings and old tones conjuring the kind of warmth set designers kill for. Despite the authenticity of the place, a make-over by interior designer Ilse Crawford (she of Soho House fame) has brought the hotel sharply up-to-date without losing any of its charm. The bright red radios were a nice touch!
